11 Ways to Nurture Your Kids in a Proper Way

July 28, 2021 by Kanishka Garg Leave a Comment

Kids are quick to adopt new habits from their parents and the environment they live in. Kids living in a toxic environment adopt toxic habits, and it shapes his or her personality. As a parent, it becomes necessary to ensure that your kid grows up in a peaceful environment. To do so, a parent has to learn how to nurture a kid in a proper way to enhance your child’s holistic growth.

Here are some tips that will help you make sure that you are nurturing your kids well.

1. Keep Them Away from a Toxic Environment

Keep kids away from toxic environment

Are you having constant issues with your partner involving verbal or physical violence? Keep in mind that your kid does not suffer the brunt of it. Kids who grow up in a toxic household tend to feel lost and left out. They might engage in certain activities as an escape from the toxic environment. These can be detrimental to their mental as well as physical health. The key here is to keep your kid away from the toxic environment in your house. Make sure that the kid is not exposed to any verbal or physical abuse. This will help not create a negative impression in the kid’s mind and affect his or her personality.

2. Spend Quality Time with your Kids

By far, the best thing you can do as a parent is to spend some quality time with your kids. This will not only help you create deeper bonds with them but will also give the kid a sense of love and belonging. You can decide on certain at-home kid activities to do. Like playing indoor games or watching a movie together. Try to spend your time with your kids doing various fun activities. Kids who spend more time with their parents are more likely to grow up and have deeper bonds with them.

3. Look after their Needs

Make sure that you as a parent are looking after the basic needs that a kid has. Make sure that you provide them with the best education. Also, keep a check on their mental and emotional health. If your kid has certain demands, it is up to you to decide if fulfilling that specific need will benefit the kid.

As a parent, you need to ensure that they have a sense of security and stability. It helps them to develop self-esteem and confidence for a better future. Emotional support and love go a long way in teaching them to trust those around them and to make independent decisions.

4. The Right Nutrition to Nurture your Kids

Providing the right nutrition to the kid is the key here. Because it will determine the kid’s physical development. Kids that are not given proper care and the right nutrition often grow up weak. It may also affect the thinking skills of a kid. It is because the brain and the body need the right nutrition to function well. Intake of foods rich in calcium and other vital nutrients will ensure better bone health in kids. Walnuts are considered to improve brain health.

Try to keep away from unhealthy food as much as possible. It’s best to teach them the importance of healthy food so that they can learn to embrace clean eating habits. Proper nutrition lays a foundation for great physical and emotional health.

5. Encourage your Kid

Encourage your kid

Kids often need encouragement to feel confident in anxious situations. Lack of encouragement from parents can also make the kids feel less confident. It, then, becomes crucial for parents to encourage their kids regularly. If a kid takes up a new activity and is not doing well in it, parents should provide proper support and stimulation.

6. Be Approachable

Being very strict with kids never does good. Try being a friend to your kids. Share about your day with them and ask them about theirs. It will also help you know your child better. Their likes and dislikes. How they think and perceive.

Engage in activities together that will help you bond. Answer their questions and display trust. Though it might seem difficult while we are also trying to discipline our kids, being approachable would offer them the confidence to approach you in difficult situations. If they see that you are interested in providing a helping hand and offering solutions, you can nurture your kids to be true and transparent.

7. Don’t Expect too Much

Expecting too much puts your kid under pressure. Not every kid handles the pressure the same way. Avoid comparing your child with their friends or siblings. Comparison can have a negative impact. It can trigger emotions like jealousy, hatred, self-doubt. Instead, understand what’s bothering them and help your child with their academics.

If they are struggling with something teach them how to do it properly. Rather than expecting them to get the best grades and earning medals, help them where they lack.

8. Have Mutual Respect

We as adults often overlook the importance of showing respect to our children. We should remind ourselves that they too deserve to be respected the way we expect them to respect others. Talk to them politely and use a mild tone. Yes, we do need to be firm to discipline our kids but doing so calmly is always better than yelling and scolding them at a drop of a hat.

It is also important to respect your kids’ choices. Their choices and opinions can differ from yours. Keep communication channels open. Let your kids ask you questions.

9. Set an Example

Kids learn from what they see. So, you have to look after yourself as well. Practice habits that you want your kids to take up. Find ways to introspect, and analyze your behavior.

If you practice what you preach you can nurture your kids in the right direction. It has been seen time and again that multiple generations of the same family tend to enter the same profession. Also, children who witness their parents having healthy self-esteem and a happy relationship imbibe those into their own lives. Once you become a parent, try to adopt a healthy lifestyle and habits to set an example.

10. Make your Kids Independent

Teach your kids the life skills required to be independent. Embibe self-confidence in your kids. Believe in your child’s ability and encourage them. Remember, try not to expect perfection from your kids as they are bound to make mistakes. Accept their follies without any severe criticism and prise them when and where necessary.

11. Promote Expressions

Promote expressions

Let your child express themselves freely. Don’t restrict their thoughts and expressions. Address and respect their feelings. Understand why they feel a certain way and help your child channel the negative feelings. Create a positive environment for them. Encouraging them to express their sentiments and feelings will teach them to share their emotions. They will learn not to suppress how they feel but rather talk it out and seek solutions.

If you want to see your kid succeed in today’s day and age then it all comes down to how well you nurture your kids. Kids who are looked after and nurtured well often grow up to be people full of good morals and ethics. Properly nurturing your kids will ensure a kid’s overall development and make sure that the kid does not lack good support in life.

These were the key ways to nurture your kids for better growth. Hope this article was helpful to you! Please leave your valuable inputs in the comments.
