6 Activities That the Whole Family Will Enjoy

August 16, 2020 by Rayanne Morriss Leave a Comment

Spending quality time with your family is very important especially for those with young children. Although children need structure and rules, they also need time to have fun. Following a strict routine for too long without any family activities mixing it up can be emotionally draining and disastrous to your family as well. Kids who have a healthy amount of playtime develop and learn skills such as problem-solving along with social and communication skills. Rejuvenate your boring daily routine by engaging in adventurous activities on the weekends and create lasting memories with family members. You will be surprised how you can build on laughter that will last a lifetime.

Here are just a few of the many ideas that you can enjoy collectively with your family.

1. A Holiday Vacation

“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”

Traveling with your family lets you explore beautiful sceneries and learn about the local’s history, culture, and traditions. Traveling as a family gives your children new and unique experiences, broadens their way of thinking, and helps them learn about the world around them. Being exposed to multiple types of cultures and traditions can help your kids be more open-minded about different ways of living. This can be an excellent learning experience as well while you are vacationing together.

2. Have a Picnic

Picnicking with your family is an affordable and a great way of bonding. Organize picnics either in the park or in your backyard and create treasured memories with your family. Picnics don’t have to be boring. Involve your family in fun activities such as games, grilling meat, et cetera. Having a picnic with your kids gives them a sense of belonging, provides emotional care, cultivates good mature behaviors, and enhances their self-esteem. Spending time outdoors while having fun could also be great for mental health and in relieving stress. You can even have your kids help with planning the picnic meal.

3. Hiking

Hiking in a new area with a beautiful landscape can be very memorable especially with your family. You can plan for a hiking adventure in family-friendly hiking trails. This way, everyone could be included and each one of you could enjoy the hike. Depending on the time of year, you can plan for the best time and areas to hike. Being outdoors will help your children become more confident in nature while also learning about safety measures. Teach your kids the importance of being prepared in the wilderness and to always tell others where they are going beforehand. This is an easy way to keep fit physically and mentally as you have fun.

4. White Water Rafting

Rafting in a nearby river is a great activity if you are looking for something more exciting during summer. If you would like a wider variety of activities at your destination, be sure to research before you book your vacation as well. In California, you can enjoy a Kern river rafting trip along with other activities such as “lake kayaking, hiking, climbing, and mountain biking.” Having more options available for your family members will ensure that everyone has a great time. Rafting is a unique outdoor activity that allows your family to create exciting memories in a unique way. However, make sure you and your kid are wearing a USCG-approved life jacket.

5. A Scenic Bike Ride

Getting your kids out for a bike ride is a great physical exercise for everyone. You can plan a family evening bike ride trip to a local ice cream business. Normalize having consistent family bike riding and enjoy the evening breeze as you create lovely memories. As you ride along, you can connect and help them perfect their riding skills. If you have a little one that is still using training wheels, this is an excellent time for them to practice as well. Explore diverse scenic cycling routes with your family and appreciate what Mother Nature has to offer.

6. Community Service

Doing community service will show your kids what it means to serve others. Community service impacts your kids positively and can create habits that they will continue to do as adults. Your kids will improve their communication skills and interpersonal relationships with other people. Giving back to society will enhance your kid’s sense of social responsibility – they will always find a need to offer a helping hand where they see it necessary. Visit children’s homes, senior centers, and homeless families, and let your kids appreciate the beauty of giving back to their community.

Life is for living and your family will benefit from participating in these bonding experiences. “A family that plays together stays together.” Skillfully stick your family together by participating in playful activities. This will only benefit your family by creating strong memories that you can look back on in the future. Engaging in fun family activities will also benefit your children mentally and emotionally so they can grow up to be well-rounded adults. Start planning a trip now so you and your kids can enjoy more time together!
