“Life is too short to wear boring clothes”

Does being a certain age mean that you have to wear boring mommy clothes?

It happens to the best of us. And the scary part is that you don’t even realize it.

When exactly does the transition happen? From a stylishly dressed girl to wearing whatever first comes to hand.

It doesn’t matter if you were the style queen in your 20’s wearing the latest trendy clothes. Flaunting figure revealing outfits on your pre-mom bodies.

Once you hit the forties you tend to gravitate towards mommy clothes.

While shopping you prefer comfort over style. You choose clothes that are easy to maintain and in dark colors.

I know that till now you were so busy raising the children and taking care of the home that there was no time to think about dressing well.

But now that the kids are a bit grown up and you can spare some time for yourself, why not use it for some much-needed self-care.

“To pull off any look wear it with full confidence”

The fastest way to look good is by dressing well. It’s no secret that looking good boosts your ego and gives you confidence.

Let us transform the way you dress with some style tips.

But before we start let us get to know what your style personality is.

What kinds of clothes do you like wearing?

western/ ethnic

Which colors do you like most?

pastel/bright

What kind of footwear do you prefer?

Sneakers, flats, heels.

What kind of look are you going for?

Stylish but comfortable, attentions seeking, timelessly elegant, classic.

Clothes look good when they are chosen according to your specific body type or shape.

What is your body shape?

Set of women’s body shape types – apple / rounded, hourglass, rectangle, triangle/pear, inverted triangle

There are five basic body shapes. The type of clothes you wear should complement your body shape. Basic awareness of what looks best with your body shape will help you look elegant and stylish.

Now let us see what type of clothes to choose according to your particular body type.

The hourglass:

If you are over  40 and still have an hourglass figure then congratulations, you are one of the lucky few. Your body is in proportion throughout with a well-defined waistline.

What to wear?

For ethnic wear: V neck kurtas fitted at the waist with short sleeves or sleeveless

For western wear: Round neck tees, fitted shirts with skinny jeans.

Accessories: Short necklaces, statement clutches, or purses.

Avoid: Shapeless clothing

The apple:

The bust size is more than the hips and the waist is not well defined. There is also a tendency to put on weight in the upper body.

What to wear?

For ethnic wear: A-line V-neck kurtas with soft flowy fabrics.

For western wear: Hip-length tunics and jackets, low waist skinny jeans.

Accessories: long necklaces, oversized earrings

Avoid Tight-fitting tops, stretchy fabrics.

The pear:

The hips are larger than the upper body. There is a tendency for weight gain in the tummy area. Most of the moms have this body type.

What to wear?

For ethnic wear: Boat neck kurtas in light prints with darker leggings. Embroidered necklines.

For western wear: Mid-rise jeans with ruffled tops, cowl tops. Waist-length jackets

Accessories: short layered necklaces, statement earrings.

Avoid light-colored leggings, short side slits Kurtis

The Inverted triangle:

The shoulders are very broad compared to the hips. The legs are mostly slender. The waist is not well defined.

What to wear?

For ethnic wear: Short-sleeved A-line kurtas with diagonal lines to take the attention away from the broad shoulders.

For western wear: Low waist jeans with V neck tops.

Accessories: Bracelets, statement earrings, delicate necklaces

Avoid Horizontal stripes over the shoulders, strappy tops.

The Rectangle:

This body type is also known as the straight body type as there is no well-defined bust or waist area. Popularly known as the model-type body.

What to wear?

For ethnic wear: Brightly  colored  kurtas  in a thicker cotton

with embellished collars or high collars.

For western wear: Round neck tops with structured trousers.

Accessories: Bright scarfs, statement rings, long necklaces.

These are by no means strict rules that you have to follow. You may have a body type that is a mix of two types. Use this list as a guideline and experiment till you get a look that is uniquely you.

Avoid Stiff shapeless tops.

The plus-size style:

Just because you are plus size doesn’t mean that you can’t dress fashionably. Throw away those shapeless clothes and follow these tips for a more fashionable you.

  • Avoid sheer, clingy fabrics.
  • Choose Tops of Darker colors or with small prints.
  • Opt for asymmetrical tops paired and pair them with leggings in solid colors.
  • Choose clothes in slimming colors like black, dark brown, dark blue, dark purple
  • Use statement accessories or brighten up your outfit with a scarf.

Fashion tips for women over 40:

  • Take good care of the skin on your face & hands as they start showing signs of aging first.
  • A good haircut will take the years off and make you look younger.
  • Skip the heavy sarees and go for lightly embellished sarees worn with contrasting embroidered blouses.
  • Avoid blindly following trends and instead choose clothes as per your body shape.
  • Finding readymade clothes that fit is difficult, get your outfits tailored instead.
  • Avoid bright garish colors and instead opt for pastel shades. However, if you do like your bright colors then go for a gaily-colored scarf or a brightly colored bag to complement your outfit.
  • Invest in good-quality footwear.
  • Segregate your clothing into casual wear, formal wear, workwear, occasion wear, summer wear, etc.
  • Invest in statement jewelry.

Conclusion:

A well-put outfit does wonders for your confidence and well-being. By the time you have hit your forties, your body has undergone so many changes. These changes can be due to pregnancy, thyroid problems, weight gain, and other health issues. Accept the changes in your body gracefully. And be sure to eat a well-balanced diet, exercise regularly, and lead an active lifestyle.

A glowing skin, a gorgeous smile, and a fabulous outfit are all you need to conquer the world.
