Can’t Stop Baby from Yelling. Try these Sixteen Steps

Babies can simply start yelling for no reason. They can cry for two to three hours a day in a 24-hour period. It is not easy for a mother to handle the screaming of her child.

Your parent skills are at a test when you want to soothe a crying baby. They could be crying for trivial reasons, and you feel quite powerless. Sometimes babies wail because they want to sleep, or they are wet and want someone to change their diaper, or they want someone at their bedside, or they require burping, or plainly because they are quite hungry and are not fed properly.

Babies also cry inconsolably when they are in deep pain owing to some illness or gas or stomach ache. At this time, babies appear quite distressed and their face transforms from a sweet cherry into hot molten lava. They look red with anger, and they start waving their arms in protest. In such a situation, it is best to consult a pediatrician.

Babies could scream all of a sudden and whatever the reason, they can be quite cranky at times. It is difficult to figure out why your baby would yell all of a sudden. As a parent, you might feel worse, and their cries could drive you to tears. You start feeling that you have failed as a mother. But it is not so. In fact, most of the newborns cry for almost three hours a day till the three months of age after which their crying dips significantly to one hour a day. In that case, there is absolutely no need to panic and feel edgy.

So, while you try and learn to interpret your babies’ cries, here are sixteen simple steps to calm your baby down. Adopting these calming techniques would definitely help to soothe a fussy baby. All you need is ample patience and a few attempts to know what works for your baby.

 

Sixteen steps to stop your baby from Screaming

  1. Cuddle your Baby

You can calm your baby from crying by cuddling your baby. Pick up your baby every time it cries. Embrace your baby closely to your body so that the baby feels your warmth and relaxes her.

  1. Put On a Music

Amuse your baby with some music. Turn on some soothing tune so that the baby feels relaxed. Try to smile and sing for your baby in your own voice any song, lullaby or even hum a poem of your choice to calm down your fussy newborn. She will be comforted by your voice.

  1. Swaddle your Baby

Wrap your baby with a large thin blanket so that it creates a womb-like feeling and the baby feels secure and comfortable. Some babies desire their arms to be left out of the swaddle as they like their freedom.

  1. Your Baby Could be Wet

Frequently check the diaper of your baby. Your baby could be crying because the diaper is wet or soiled. Change the diaper so that the mood of your baby changes and she feels peaceful.

  1. Uncomfortable Clothes

Your baby could be crying because the clothes that the little one is wearing are making her feel too hot or too cold. Dress your baby comfortably so that she feels relaxed.

  1. Soothe your Baby with White Noise

Put on a calming rhythmic whooshing sound that can help your baby to relax and remind the little one of the womb. Sounds such as a white noise device, the whirring sound of a fan, or the recording of heartbeat can help calm the babies’ nerves. You can also make shhh…shhh sounds and try to shush your baby.

  1. Rock your Baby

Hold the child in your arm and gently rock your baby back and forth. You can also put your baby in a swing and softly sway it so that it can remind the baby of the calming movement they felt in the womb.

  1. Entertain with Baby Toys

Newborns can get bored very easily. They could be crying inconsolably for no reason. Entertain them with some baby toys that make noises to enliven their mood and to keep them happy. Play with your baby with some toy that has a sound.

  1. Check if your Baby is Hungry

Make a note of the feeding schedules of your baby. Your baby could be wailing because it is hungry. Avoid overfeeding the baby too as it might make the little one uncomfortable. Keep gaps of at least two hours in every feeding.

  1. Your Baby Could be Sick

Your baby could have a runny nose or a fever. Check the temperature of the baby to see if he has a fever. If your baby has a temperature of 100.4 degrees F or 38 degrees Celsius, call the pediatrician right away

  1. Put your Baby to Sleep in Left-side

Take your baby in your arms and put her to sleep on a left side to make the digestion process easier or stomach for support. Gently rub your baby’s back as it sleeps in the side-stomach position. After the little one sleeps, gently lay the baby in the crib on her back.

  1. Avoid Bright Lights During the Night

Avoid bright lights during the night when you feed or change your baby. At that time, avoid putting on loud music or television at home as the baby might feel irritated and start screaming. Keep the environment as calm and serene as possible.

  1. Walk your Baby in a Body Carrier

Hold your baby in a front-pack carrier. Walking around with your baby is a great way to comfort her. The carrier is convenient as your hands are free for doing other jobs.

  1. Go for a Walk

Fresh air can do wonders for your babies. Put the baby in a carrier and take the little one for a walk to change the mood. You can also take your baby to the garden so that the little one feels refreshed.

  1. Calm your Baby with Nonnutritive Sucking

Give your baby some pacifier if the crying doesn’t stop. Soothe your baby with non-nutritive sucking as it significantly calms the nerves.

  1. Baby is Overstimulated

Your baby could be overstimulated with the lights and noises. Everything is new to the baby, and this can be overwhelming. Keep the environment in the late afternoon and evening calm and quiet. Put your baby in a completely dark room so that they are reminded of the womb or you can put just a soft light so that the baby feels peaceful and relaxed.

Most of the babies have normal fussy crying every day. When they are crying for more than three hours per day, it is called colic. The babies are happy when they don’t cry.

Even after adopting all these steps, if your baby doesn’t stop crying call your pediatrician immediately to check if there is any medical illness. Until then, you can use these simple tricks to work.
