It is a common complaint of all us mothers that belly fat is the most stubborn fat. It just doesn’t go! Even if we lose weight elsewhere, a pouch remains. It is not easy or convenient to exercise every day to lose the fat from your tummy. However, walking is not only comparatively easier but also an effective way to handle stubborn belly fat. Let me first explain why walking is a beneficial activity for your overall health.
Walking for Health
- Walking is great for your heart as it brings up the heart rate and lowers blood pressure. According to researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, walking helps women by reducing their risk of stroke by 20%.
- It helps improve sleep,
- Walking lowers the risk of Alzheimer’s,
- Can strengthen your muscles,
- It improves your mental health,
- Also improves glucose control for people with Diabetes.
Walking for Belly Fat
We all mothers develop a considerable amount of belly fat following delivery. Not only does it make us look fat, but it can also impact our health negatively. Too much belly fat raises the chance of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and even cancer. Thus, it is necessary to lose belly fat not only for getting back to your earlier clothes but also for improving your health. And what could be better than walking as it is the most convenient and the easiest among all exercises! It is also a great way for new mothers to start a workout routine.
As you start walking, your body dips into fat reserves and starts burning stored fat. Though it is not possible to lose weight from one target area, regular walking can help you lose enough fat to help you tone up your tummy area.
So, as you have got an idea about how walking can improve your health, I am giving below a few tips to lose stubborn belly fat.
1. A Brisk walk is Better to Lose Belly Fat
Many people walk to lose weight though they do not get the desired results. It is because they are doing it wrong. For walking to be efficient enough to lose weight from your tummy, you need to speed it up. While you can start with a stroll, as you become more regular, go for a brisk walk instead. A brisk walk helps you burn more calories and increases your heart rate.
2. Regularity is Important
One more important thing to consider when walking is how often you are doing it and for how long. You will have to follow a routine and walk for enough time to lose the stubborn belly fat. A few times a week might work, but for better results, it’s best to go for a brisk walk every day! If your routine doesn’t permit you or the weather is bad you can do some walking exercises at home which I will discuss later in the article.
3. Correct posture
Good posture is necessary to avoid any injuries and to reap the most benefit. While walking, keep your abs drawn slightly in and your shoulders back and chest wide. Swing your arms back and forth. Swinging your arms will require more energy thus putting more force on your workout routine.
4. Change your Routine to lose Belly Fat
Your body gets used to the daily activities you do. Thus, results might slow down! Keep in mind to mix and match. Take a different route with more inclination once in a while. Or keep on changing your pace from slow to fast. For instance, you can walk slowly for five minutes, and then walk fast for the next ten minutes. You can also include a little jogging before going back to walking again.
5. Include a Partner
Walking alone can be boring in the long run and thus a person might lose motivation. If you can find a walking partner, you can inspire each other to give your best. Also, if both of you are working towards the same goal, it gets easier to reach that goal.
6. Use an App
Apps are very popular nowadays and also very convenient. There are numerous free apps that track your steps and record your daily activities. You can keep an eye on the calories burnt as well as calories consumed. Also, it is recommended to walk 10,000 steps daily for good health. Apps like Pedometer, MapMy Walk, Charity Miles, etc, can help you keep a track of the steps you take on a daily basis. Proper and regular walking has been proven to lose weight and trim the waist area.
A few Tips
I am also fully aware of the fact that many mothers find it difficult to go outside for a walk on a daily basis. So, if you can even take out 20-30 minutes every day, below are a few tips for weight loss at home. You can choose an area, put on some music and walk in one place. For optimum results you can try these:
- Add weights while walking.
- Lift your legs while walking in place.
- Lift your arms up and down while walking in place.
- Go forth and back in your walking area.
- Include walking wherever you can.
“Walk at Home by Leslie Sanson” is a helpful YouTube channel for busy mothers. I have also benefited a lot from her exercises. They are very easy to incorporate as you can do them from the comforts of your home. You just need a good pair of shoes and some support clothing. Most of her exercises are for losing belly fat. So, it could be extremely helpful for anyone trying to get a smaller waist.
“Joanna Soh Official” is another YouTube channel that I would highly recommend! She has a “10,000 Indoor STEP Challenge” which I have personally benefited from.
